In a bid to keep the city clean and green, Blantyre City Council (BCC) has joined hands with other partners to take care of public places around the city.

BCC public relations manager Anthony Kasunda said in an interview this week under the initiative, companies and other stakeholders are encouraged to adopt streets, open spaces, rivers, dams, play grounds and hills which they can take care of.

“This involves cleaning and planting flowers. The aim at the end of the day is to make our city clean,” he said in an e-mailed response to a questionnaire on Tuesday.

Kasunda said several companies have shown interest to adopt a roundabout, a street or a recreation centre (park) and Charter Insurance Company is already on the ground at Clock Tower Roundabout in Blantyre.

The ‘Keep Blantyre City Clean and Green’ initiative is the brainchild of the city’s mayor councillor Noel Chalamanda in his quest to restore the beauty of the commercial city.
